A AN/CRT-1 Sonobuoy as used for hunting U-boats in the Atlantic. These Sonobuoy were dropped from patrolling aircraft. Upon hitting the water a hydrophone would deploy and the buoy was activated. Any sounds made by the German U-boats would be picked up my the hydrophone and transmitted to the aircraft. Usually a pattern of different colour coded bouys would be dropped to determine the approximate location of the enemy submarine. A rare piece of history of the battle of the Atlantic in excellent condition. The accompanying sonobuoy receiver is available in a separately listing.
