Early US M1 fixed bale helment with fibre Hawley liner

A nice early US M1 fixed bale - front seam helmet with fibre Hawley liner. This helmet perfectly demonstrates some of the problems found with early production helmets. The outer helmet has a stress crack near the rim and shows how easily the paint wears from the stainless steel rim. The fibre Hawley liner lacks strength compared to later plastic liners and shows some cracking near the peak. Otherwise the helmet is in very good condition with most of the paint remaining and all straps and webbing intact.
